As we edge closer to a new month, households across the United States anticipate the upcoming round of benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Commonly referred to as food stamps, SNAP offers crucial financial aid each month to families and individuals facing financial hardships, enabling them to purchase essential groceries. This assistance is distributed through an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card, which is accepted at various accredited stores.

The distribution of SNAP benefits is a monthly event, but the exact date beneficiaries receive their aid varies significantly depending on the state or territory they reside in.

Despite the program being backed by federal funding, the responsibility of disbursing these funds falls under state and local authorities, resulting in a wide array of payment schedules across the country.

For instance, in California, the date a recipient receives their benefits is influenced by their case number — those with a case number ending in 01 might see their benefits earlier in the month compared to those with higher numbers.

Some states base their disbursement dates on the initial letter of the recipient's last name, like Delaware, while others, such as Rhode Island, opt to distribute benefits to all eligibles on the same specified day.

Below is a comprehensive overview of the SNAP benefit distribution schedule for September 2024, covering all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories:
